Music Festival Style - Looks For Less

Coachella may have come and gone, but it was just the kick-start to a super hot and stylish music festival season. I’ve teamed up with the style team at ASOS to bring you a couple of outfit boards to inspire your style as you dance in the desert to your favorite bands. Lightweight dresses for enduring the heat, practical shoes, a cross-body purse or backpack, and sunnies are must have items.

Music Festival Style - Looks For Less

Music festivals usually last the entire weekend, so you’ll need to pack a few outfits. I’m loving this tribal inspired look – the mix of colors and patterns are too fun at these “anything goes” outdoor festivals.

Is the music festival trend your style? If so, how do you wear this look?

Tangerine Tango Nail Polish Necklace Lipgloss Flats Sweater Top

Pantone’s Color Of The Year – Tangerine Tango

Pantone, the authority that drives color trends, declared Tangerine Tango, a deep reddish coral orange, the color of 2012. We’ve rounded up a few affordable Tangerine Tango finds in this edition of 5 Under $50.

So what do you all think about Tangerine Tango? Is this a color you would work into your wardrobe and beauty products?

Druzy Jewelry Necklace Ring Earrings Blue Orange

5 Under $50 – Oh-So-Sparkly Druzy Jewelry

Druzy is popping up everywhere and I’m so excited about this trend. Druzy is a coating of fine crystals on a rock fracture surface, usually on agate. It comes in a wide variety of colors and is so sparkly! We found 5 pieces under $50 including necklaces, earrings, and rings. I’d never heard of Brooklyn Thread before, but they have a ton of druzy to choose from all under $50!

  1. Rachel Roy Blue Drusy Necklace – Macy’s $42.00
  2. Orange Druzy Tassel Necklace – Overstock.com $31.99
  3. Callisto Agate Gold Druzy Earrings – Anthropologie $48.00
  4. Silver Druzy Ring – Brooklyn Thread $36.00
  5. Purple Druzy Ring – Brooklyn Thread $30.00

What do you all think of the druzy trend? Is this something you would try?

Music Festival Fashion

The season of “fun in the sun” music festivals kicked off this weekend at Coachella, a hot spot for fashionable celebs that love to rock the boho trend. The spirit of these festivals has definitively started to influence main stream fashion and it’s a trend that I’m beyond excited about! The desert heat definitely lends itself to 70s style – super short denim shorts, sheer tops, crossbody bags, wayfarar sunglasses, lace dresses, floppy hats, and flat sandals or ankle boots. I am so into this boho-chic movement. I’m always excited to see pics from the event because I always feel like I am looking at a snapshot of the past – Woodstock anyone?

The Breakdown

If you follow me on Twitter or YouTube, then you probably already know that I am spending Christmas up north with my husband’s parents this year. I’ve lived in Florida for many years, so as you can imagine, I have a lot of warm weather wear to stock up on. Item number one on my list of “how to survive a northern Christmas” is a super warm and cozy coat, which is why I am in love with the quilted and puffer jackets that are emerging as the trend of the season. The thick insulated layer is bound to keep you warmer than a simple lined coat, no matter what the materials. I’m not a big fan of the puffer jackets that make you look like a big ol box, so I chose styles that are either cropped or cinched at the waist to give the illusion of shape amongst all those layers. Be sure to check out the links below for all of the color options available.

The Breakdown

Did you all see Ashley Greene, star of the Twilight sagas, at the MTV VMAs? Oh, I did a double-take. She was so beautiful and best dressed of the night in my opinion.

I am seeing these full volume skirts popping up on celebs everywhere. They are perfect for night, but so fun and unexpected during the day when paired with a simple top. They are worn a bit high on the waist, a bit on the short side, and flare out from hips to hem. Draping and pleated add such beautiful interest to these voluminous party skirts. Such a fun trend!

What do you think of this trend? The pink mesh skirt (item 5 above) is my fav! Would you wear this look?

  1. High Waisted Mesh & Pleated Satin Bow Skirt – ASOS.com $30.33
  2. Modern Floral Metallic Skirt – CharlotteRusse.com $24.50
  3. Black Pleated Bow Ruffle Skirt – ModCloth.com $59.99
  4. Ruffle Layered A-Line Skirt in Black or Magenta – Alloy $29.90
  5. Mesh Trim Full Mini Skirt in Pink or Gray – ASOS.com $43.81

The Breakdown

Another trend emerging this fall is military inspired everything – apparel, footwear, and accessories. Even though this trend is all-neutrals, I wouldn’t suggest wearing the head-to-toe miliatary look unless you’re headed into combat.

A few ways to wear this look – try denim jeans paired with a military top or jacket and combat boots, a military skirt with gray tights, a black top, and metallic flats, or perhaps skinny cargos with a white tee and clogs. The jewelry is slightly tarnished, as though it’s had a lot of sun exposure, and the shoes are lace up and either drab in color or completely rugged. The Make Love (Not War) Id Tag necklace is so fun!!!

Also, in case you missed it, our Manicure Monday this week was perfect for this look – Essie’s new Sew Psyched from their Fall 2010 collection is so military chic. So what do you think of this trend?

  1. Vintage Style Military Stud Earrings – ASOS.com $10.11
  2. Military Pleated Jacket – ArdenB.com $69.00
  3. Make Love ID Charm Necklace – MaxAndChloe.com – $80.00
  4. Olive You Too Top – ModCloth.com $44.99
  5. Military Leather Waist Belt – ASOS.com $37.07
  6. Skinny Cargo Pants – ArdenB.com $49.00
  7. Ronnie Flats in Gold Satin – Nine West $27.97
  8. Military Camouflage Skirt – YOOX.com $85.00
  9. Steve Madden Harllem Lace-Up Combat Boots – Endless.com $99.95

The Breakdown

I am so loving this trend and I want one of everything above! I will definitely add a little faux fur to my wardrobe this season and all of the above options are under $100! I love that even though celebs can afford the real, they seem to be opting for the faux instead. In fact, Rachel Zoe rarely speaks of the real deal on her show and has several faux fur options in her affordable fashion line for QVC. I hope she sticks with the faux when she starts designing her higher priced collection.

So what do you think of this trend? I think the Peekaboo Crossbody faux fur handbag (option 1 above), available for pre-order at NineWest.com and as seen in the June/July edition of Vogue magazine, is my fav!!! It looks a lot more expensive than a “Fab Find Under $100″!

  1. Peekaboo Crossbody Faux Fur Handbag w/ Lock & Chain – NineWest.com $59.00
  2. Just Enough Puff Jacket w/ Faux Fur Detachable Collar – ModCloth.com $94.99
  3. Faux Fur Pull-Thru Scarf – Express.com $29.99
  4. Faux Fur Vests in Black or Brown – OldNavy.com $29.50
  5. Faux Fur Clutch w/ Turnlock – Urban Outfitters $38.00
  6. Black Lace Up Faux Fur Wedge Boots – AmiClubWear.com $44.99

The Breakdown

Welcome to day 2 of our 5 day 2010 Fall Trends Series. You definitely can’t escape the leopard trend this season. This is a look I swore I’d never try 10 years ago, but like they say, never say never. I think animal prints are just enough main stream so that you won’t be gawked at for your attempt, but yet, not so main stream that you are blending in the crowd.

I am seeing this trend on celebs everywhere and all over the magazines. I think I’m going to work into this one slowly, maybe with a belt or some ballet flats. Check out the ballet flats above – they have the pony hair finish making them look like real leopard fur! LOVE! I’d really like to try a leopard tank with a black 3/4 sleeve jacket and some skinny jeans. What about you? Would you dare to be wild in the leopard print trend?

  1. Big Leopard Print Scarf – AffordableScarves.com $12.07
  2. Leopard Jacket $49.00 & Leopard Tank $29.00 – Spiegel.com
  3. Leopard Print Leggings – YesStyle.com $15.00
  4. Leopard Ballet Flats – Target.com $19.99
  5. Leopard & Gold Pyramid Studded Belt – Dillards.com $45.00
