You’re Invited!

Tonight is the night that we will be chatting it up about fashion on Twitter using the tag #wearefashion. To make it easy, I will be using an online chat room for our party. To join, all you have to do is sign in to Twitter at TweetChat, type in the wearefashion tag, and it will automatically follow all tweets with this tag, as well as attach this tag to all of your tweets automatically. Super simple and so fun!

The party starts at 8pm EST (that’s 5pm for my west coast buds), and there will be several prizes – the grand prize, a $150 ShopBop gift card, will be awarded to the most active participant. We’ll also be asking several fun fashion related questions, with a $25 gift card attached to each question (Urban Outfitters, Steve Madden, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Piperlime, and the Gap) – answer each question for a chance to win, and the Q&A winners will be selected at random.

This just in – high fashion designer brand Lanvin to design an affordable fashion line for H&M! Fashion news so big it was a worldwide trending topic on Twitter. Oh, I just can’t get over it. The collection of womenswear and menswear will go on sale on November 23 in 200 H&M stores worldwide and will be revealed to the world on November 2.

“I have said in the past that I would never do a mass-market collection, but what intrigued me was the idea of H&M going luxury rather than Lanvin going public,” said Alber Elbaz, artistic director of Lanvin. Wow Wow Wow! Stay tuned to for more info!

The late great Alexander McQueen was by far my favorite designer (if you couldn’t tell by my McQueen black and white pumps icon and the way I ripped apart Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance video). His fashion was so bold, colorful, and always ahead of its time. Alexander McQueen, born Lee Alexander McQueen in 1969, was an English fashion designer known for his unconventional designs and shock tactics. McQueen worked as the head designer at Givenchy from 1996 to 2001 before founding the Alexander McQueen and McQ labels. McQueen’s dramatic designs, worn by celebrities including Björk, Lady Gaga, Nicole Kidman, Penélope Cruz, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Rihanna, were met with critical acclaim and earned him the British Designer of the Year award four times between the years of 1996 and 2003.

McQueen committed suicide last week, 3 years after his good friend and mentor Isabella Blow took her own life and 9 days after his mother passed away. On February 3rd he wrote on his Twitter page that his mother had died the day before and added, “RIP mumxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.” Four days later he wrote that he had an “awful week” but said “friends have been great” adding, “now i have to some how pull myself together”. McQueen was laid to rest this Thursday in West London. The death of this genius is a huge loss for the fashion world.

McQueen’s last fashion show was held at Paris Fashion Week in October 2009. In addition to his amazing talent as a designer, he was also an accomplished scuba diver and used his passion as a source of inspiration in his “Plato’s Atlantis” Spring/Summer 2010 collection. Check out the high fashion, hair, and makeup in the backstage report below. See also full show and McQueen’s Career in Photos.
