Vera Wang

The Looks for Less received an unexpected and super exciting opportunity to attend the runway show for the Vera Wang Fall 2012 collection for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center on Tuesday, February 14.

The collection was absolutely breathtaking. The styling was beautiful. The hair and clothes were whimsical but edgy. The collection’s presentation was flawless, with a transition from color to color. It began with a nude camel hue and moved into striking orange then grays and blacks and finally blue.

There was a mix of textures; wool, fur and chiffon. There was layering and there was simplicity. The construction and tailoring was impeccable. I was absolutely floored by each look as it came down the runway. I wanted to wear everything. I especially liked the outerwear and pants. I felt as though the pieces were wearable and super flattering. I also really loved the shoes and boots. I thought they were perfect!

Check out the complete Vera Wang Fall 2012 collection here. What were some of your favorite pieces? Which items do you see yourself wearing in real life?

This show was an amazing ending to The Looks for Less New York Fashion Week adventure. I hope you have all enjoyed sharing in my experiences this week. A huge thank you to The Looks for Less for the opportunity to represent as the New York correspondent.

Norisol Ferrari Presentation

“For Fall 2012, I am exploring the seductive power of glamour and using it as a coat of armor — Jean Harlow meets Tina Turner in Mad Max.”

-Norisol Ferrari

The Looks for Less was invited to attend the presentation of the Norisol Ferrari Fall 2012 collection at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center on Tuesday, February 14.

The designer, who launched her brand in 2009, showcased an array of pieces, displaying her love for furs and leathers as well as the embodiment of the notion of each piece being a second skin for the wearer. Lace, cashmere, wool and silk were also intermixed with the more exotic fabrics to create these handcrafted pieces.

Each of the 19 looks featured in the collection were displayed in a circle in the center of the room, allowing each of the viewers to walk around and see each one up close. The centerpiece of the display was the ‘Whitney’ black satin strapless corseted gown with black lace trim and bustle, and it was a show stopper!

Overall the collection was very edgy. It was rocker-chic, it featured menswear inspired looks and had hints of Gothic and Victorian influences. I really loved that it had so many different types of pieces in it; dresses, gowns, vests, coats, jackets, skirts, pants and tops. While I appreciated getting to see the super luxurious furs, I liked seeing simpler pieces like the beautifully tailored pants and blouses. I also really liked the way that everything was styled.

Norisol Ferrari herself was very humble and you could tell by just looking at her that she was really in awe of the experience and the opportunity to show at NYFW. The last picture is of her and the only two live models in the presentation.

While the collection may not cater to my usual fashion sensibilities, I would really love to wear many of the pieces I saw. What do you think of the Norisol Ferrari Fall 2012 collection? Which of the pieces was your favorite and why?

Polyvore Live

The Looks for Less won Polyvore’s 2011 Blogger Award for Best Budget Blog and was invited to attend Polyvore’s first ever runway show, Polyvore Live, sponsored by COVERGIRL, on Monday, February 13. Polyvore Live was “a celebration of the future of fashion and beauty” and featured collections from four Fashion Institute of Technology graduates; Lauren Bagliore, Vengsarkar Budhu, Sergio Guadarrama, and Dana-Maxx Pomerantz. The runway show featured about ten looks from each of the Polyvore Live designers, modeled by top bloggers.

Each designer had a very distinct point of view, which was clear from each of their collections. Lauren’s collection was edgy, Vengsarkar’s tailoring was fantastic, Dana-Maxx’s pieces had the perfect whimsical touch and Sergio’s gowns were sensational.

The makeup was done by COVERGIRL and the models were all beautiful. I love that an affordable range of beauty products was used in the show. Each of the ladies exuded loads of confidence and added a bit of personality to each of the designs as they premiered down the runway. It was really fun getting to see so many of the faces behind some of today’s most popular blogs.

Polyvore Live was a wonderful event. It gave these up-and-coming designers an opportunity to show their work. All of the designers are extremely talented and I would be excited to wear any of their pieces.

What do you think of these collections? Which is your favorite?

Rock & Republic for Kohl’s

Friday I attended my very first New York Fashion Week event, as the New York Correspondent for The Looks for Less. Rock & Republic is relaunching as an exclusive line for Kohl’s featuring premium denim and glam apparel and accessories.

The event was held at Hammerstein Ballroom and was attended by several celebrities including Zoe Saldana, Ashlee Simpson, Molly Sims, Mena Suvari, Ed Westwick and Penn Badgley. If you were following The Looks for Less on Twitter, you were able to keep up with a few of the fun snaps I got at the event as well as some of the play by play (see celebrity sightings below).

The runway show featured the Rock & Republic for Kohl’s Spring 2012 collection. There was something for everyone, even the guys, and all the pieces were really easy to mix and match. There was a huge range of looks; casual, dressy, edgy but all contemporary. I really appreciated the approach this collection took to keeping the items fun and flirty, but also making it easy to spice them up with a blazer, hat or a really sexy shoe.

There is a wide variety of denim to choose from, in several different styles and fits. There are tops for every occasion and the accessories provide the perfect finish to any outfit. The best thing about the Rock & Republic for Kohl’s line is that it’s accessible and affordable. For those of us who don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on being fashionable, it’s a great chance to grab some really cute pieces with loads of versatility.

The full collection will be available in stores and online beginning Wednesday, February 15. What do you think? Would you give any items from the Rock & Republic for Kohl’s collection a try?
