From Trina – “The 4th is just around the corner and whether you have a BBQ or pool party to attend, I know you recessionistas will want to look fabulous. Dressing for themed holidays can be tricky. To avoid crossing over into tacky, my suggestion is to pick a color from that holiday and pair it with a simple themed accessory. With Independence Day for instance, the red top would be perfect with crisp white shorts and simple star shaped earrings. The romper would be darling with white wedge sandals and red lips. Or take the blue skirt, add a white tank and dress up the look with a holiday inspired manicure. The choice is yours. Now go show off your Independence!”

About My Look
I finally figured out how us mere-mortals (excuse me, high fashion recessionsitas) can get our hands on designer brand apparel and accessories for a whole lot less. No, I am not talking about outlet stores – no picked over items at these sales. If you’ve been following my blog for a while, then you know that I am passionate about “invite only” sample sales. In fact, I bought everything I am wearing above from sample sales, in addition to these 7 For All Mankind jeans on Monday, Rock and Republic jeans, and Jimmy Choo sunnys.
Sample sale sites have “designer a day” boutiques at deeply discounted prices – generally 50-75% off! In addition, if you rack up credits (share an invite with friends and earn credits when they make their first purchase) then you get these designer items at next-to-nothing prices. Even the manicure is a designer look for less – check out this video on how to get these Chanel inspired nails.

I may have to have this dress. It would look great on it’s own, or as Elisabeth Hasselbeck is wearing it, with leggings, on The View. The Real is the Alice + Olivia Chevron dress and may be found at ShopBop.com for $368. The Steal may be found at LuLus.com with a price tag of $55, for a difference of $313 from the Real.
I love LuLu’s Summer at the Hamptons dress in pink. Black and pink stripes of crepe-textured fabric create a cool summer look that can go from boutique to beach. This fully lined dress is complete with an elasticized waistband and a belted sash to top it off.
