TRESemme Dry Shampoo Review

Have any of you ever tried dry shampoo before? I LOVE it! I try not to wash my hair everyday to help preserve the color and health usually stripped by detergents in shampoo. Dry shampoo helps me get by with an extra day or two without washing it. If you’re new to dry shampoo, it is a wet powder that you spray into your roots that dries to soak up excess oil and makes your hair smell freshly washed. If you have thin hair, its great for adding a little texture.

One of my first reviews was for Salon Grafix Dry Shampoo. At the time, I thought it was the best thing ever, until TRESemmé sent me a bottle of their Fresh Start dry shampoo. I’m going to compare the two so that you can get an idea of what to look for in a dry shampoo.

  • Sprayer: My main problem with the Salon Graffix dry shampoo was the sprayer. I got a buy one, get one half off deal and the sprayer on both bottles was broken. Luckily I was able to return them for replacements, but even the sprayers on the new bottles were spitting at me. The TRESemmé sprayer offers a super-fine even mist of dry shampoo. Who wants clumps of thick powder on top of unwashed hair?
  • Color of Powder: The Salon Graffix dry shampoos come in a variety of colors such as brunette, black, and blonde. I loved this idea at first, but after a while, I found brown overspray on my floor and in my ears lol. Dry shampoo gives your hair a matte finish, so I never spray it on top of my hair. I always spray it in sections under my part and push it through the rest of my hair. Therefore, I prefer the clear/white of the TRESemmé Fresh Start Dry Shampoo.
  • Availability: I couldn’t find the Salon Grafix dry shampoo anywhere in town, so I had to purchase it online. I have seen the TRESemmé in all drugstores, WalMart, and Target.

Tips On Getting The Best Results

  • Do shake vigorously before use and in between spray bursts for best results.
  • Do lift sections of dry hair and spray lightly at roots
  • Do spray in short bursts, holding 8-12 inches from head
  • Don’t spray it like hair spray (all over and continuously)
  • Do leave in for 1-2 minutes
  • Do use fingertips or a brush to distribute product evenly
  • If clogging occurs, remove nozzle and rinse the nozzle under warm water, then reattach.

  1. I am a fan of dry shampoo.. but I feel like this one leaves too much of a film on my hair. It works great, But I don’t exactly want to touch my hair after i’ve sprayed it..

  2. Trina says:

I have to confess I don’t use dry shampoo like I used to. I find that having shorter hair, I have to wash everyday just to style it right lol. Maybe a silk pillowcase would help…?

  3. Tracie says:

I’ve tried it and it makes my hair feel gross afterwards. I’ll stick with my Oscar Bindi powder.

  4. SnackyJackie says:

I have only used the Suave Dry Shampoo and I like it for those get-outt-bed-late-days but the scent is overpowering. I also feel like I get 3 uses out of a can and then done…. it’s only about $2-3 so it doesn’t bother me THAT much but still.

How’s the scent on this one? I have been itching to try it…. I should just do it.

    Thanks for the review!

  5. I’ve used this product before, and it did work for me, however I wasn’t able to go an entire day without washing my hair after using the dry shampoo. It also left a white residue on my hair if I sprayed it too close to my scalp.

  6. Angel says:

This product leaves white flakes all over my hair and it drys sort of sticky. No bueno.
I tend to favor the Salon Graffix one. It’s always in wal-Mart when I go or any other drug store.
There’s also a brand called Psssst … that one works as well.
