Update Ok, I just couldn’t help myself… I had to go ahead and try out the Essie “Matte About You” top coat and it is too cool. You paint it on to any shiny nail polish and it slowly turns matte right before your eyes. It is crazy cool. This is also the top coat you will want to wear with any matte nail polish, as you would not want to ruin the finish with a shiny top coat. You have to try this out. As I mentioned earlier in this posts, matte finishes are very popular right now, and now you can matte any of your favorite colors.
Earlier Today: I was on MarieClaire.com the other day and came across the most beautiful manicure post that featured nail polish by OPI. I thought it was such a great idea to get to see nail polish on nails before you purchase, rather than in the bottle. If you’re anything like me, I stand at the nail polish section in Target and walk out with every nail a different color because I have to try before I buy (while no one is looking of course, hahah).
One thing led to another and while searching for more pics of people wearing nail polish, I stumbled upon All You Desire, a blog all about nail polish and I was totally inspired. In fact, so inspired, that I immediately went to Amazon.com and purchased eight colors, including the matte Russian Navy featured in the Marie Claire post. The first bottle to come in was the You Don’t Know Jacques! (NLF15), so I tried it on immediately and I love it!!! This color is available in matte, suede (shimmery) and shiny, which is the finish I’m wearing. I clipped my nails to be similar in length to the Maire Claire nails, painted away, and thought I’d blog all about it. Stay tuned for pics because I’d love to do this again sometime. I will definitely blog about the matte Russian Navy when it comes in… oh, I can’t wait!!!

I love this color! It’s one of my faves. I’m interested to see what you think of the matte. I have suede and matte OPI colors and I’ve been disappointed with how they wear. The suede especially chips on me within a day of polishing my nails. I’m considering trying the Essie matte top coat which is supposed to make any regular color look matte.
I picked the Essie top coat as well. I think I’m gonna wear this polish for a couple of days and then try the matte top coat, if there are no chips or dings by then, hahah. Will post a pic of that as well. Thanks for your comment.
I love this color matte! How is it wearing? I’m definitely going to have to try the Essie top coat. That may be the trick to keeping my OPI matte and suede colors on my nails longer.
so far, not one chip or ding today. i am eager to see how it wears as well. will let you know again in a few days. thanks for the comment :) oh also, they do sell the “You Don’t Know Jacques” in a matte finish, but i opted to purchase the shiny finish so that matte or shiny were optional with the Essie matte top coat. i think i will do that from here on out, with the exception of the opi “Russian Navy” in matte that i already purchased. can’t wait for that one to come in!!!
This is just what I needed for inspiration to start doing my nails again! Both are now on my Amazon wishlist waiting for when I get a job!
Saw your tweet about still not having any dings a few days later. I think I’m going to try the Essie Matte Top Coat over my matte and suede colors to see if that helps with the chipping. I’m not ready to give up on those colors yet. :) Great post! Thanks!
I have to try that Essie Matte About You top coat. I have 4 or 5 matte/suede polishes and they don’t last at all. The finish starts to get shiny the next day.
You Don’t Know Jacques is pretty also.
