A few weeks ago, 10 bloggers were selected, including myself, to participate in a DIY challenge hosted by New York Design Shop. Remember the Current/Elliot Studded Boyfriend Shorts DIY tutorial that I posted recently? The studs were compliments of New York Design Shop and I love the way the shorts turned out!
For this contest, NYDS sent each blogger a matching kit full of DIY materials. The challenge – create one or more fashion-related DIY projects, including a tutorial, using only the trimmings they provide. The materials felt very bohemian to me, with the fringe and lace, so in the spirit of music festivals that are so hot right now (literally), I came up with a fringe bandeau top and a lace headband.
I hope you’ll take a second to VOTE FOR ME!!! Also, voters who leave a comment will be entered into a drawing to win one of the projects made by the winning blogger.

Each blogger received a box full of DIY trimmings and embellishments.

For the fringe bandeau top, start by laying out strips of materials that, when sewn together, will be tall enough to cover your lady parts. For my top, I placed a piece of stretch trim above and below the striped sash material because these pieces will tie in the back.

Measure the widest part of your bust and cut the striped material 5 inches shorter than your measurement. My bust is 33” so I trimmed the material at 28” and did a 1/2” hem on each side, taking the width of my top to 27”. The stretch trim needs to be 5” wider than the striped material on each side so that it may tie in the back (mine is 37” wide).

Sew the stretch trim above and below the striped material, with the striped material overlapping both pieces of trim.

Cut the fringe the same width as the hemmed striped material. My hemmed striped material and fringe are 27”. Sew the fringe to the bottom of the bandeau top. I layered mine over the lighter color of trim for contrast.

I also made a headband out of the antique lace. I wrapped it over my head and tied it under the back of my hair.

Love all the ties in the back from the headband and the bandeau fringe top.

A twirl to showcase my new Jeffrey Cambpell Woodies and Free People maxi skirt. I picked them up to go with my top. These pics are truely in the spirit of music festivals. It was over 100 degrees in Florida and I have never had my camera lens fog up from the humidity. Can you see the heat in my face? haha

My kitty cat came to visit. It didn’t take long before his white fur was all over my black maxi skirt! Photo credit: My Husband. (he requested I add that, hahhahaha)
